I wanted to thank you once again for the excellent care which Daddy received from you and from all the Summerdown and Pentlow staff during his stay. He really could not have been in a better place for this closing chapter of his life, and once he had settled in and got to know the staff he was really happy to be so well looked after.

Artists Praised at Tunbridge Wells Care Centre

Resident’s from the Tunbridge Wells Care Centre recently publicly exhibited their artwork in an exhibition at Tunbridge Wells Library entitled ‘The Big White Wall’.

‘I can’t do that’ or ‘art is what you see in a gallery’ is a common misconception for many people. In its simplest form, making one mark on a canvas is producing a unique piece of artwork because you have determined where the mark goes and in what colour – it’s your own piece of self expression.

Here at TWCC we actively encourage all our residents to participate in activities where self expression is the basis, whether it’s painting, bookmark making, floral arrangements, pottery painting, and creative writing or in music. The sense of pride, self-esteem and well-being which results from the work is fundamental to the ‘person-centred’ approach we adopt in our nursing environment.

Our stimulating activity programme includes entertainers, travelling museums and visiting animals all of which are under-pinned by our community outreach programme that maintains links to the outside for all the people in our care.

Senior Person of the Year

Ashridge Court Care Centre, a member of the Canford Healthcare group is sponsoring this years 2011 Senior Person of the Year, in association with the Bexhill Observer.

Liz Young, of Ashridge Court Care Centre, said: “Bexhill’s senior citizens are key contributors to the local community yet their input, which makes a big difference to other people’s lives, often goes without public recognition. This campaign offers a platform for the people of Bexhill and its surrounding areas to honour seniors who have inspired or helped others and played a positive role in their life."

Readers have the opportunity to nominate over the next six weeks.

Care Home Activity Guide

This has been put together by Activity Co-ordinators across the Canford Healthcare Group, for use by other care homes in a bid to share good practice.

The Canford Healthcare Group currently has five care homes in Kent and Sussex, each benefiting from two Activity Co-ordinators, and we’ve selected some of the most popular events enjoyed by our residents.

We’ve tried to include a mix covering the important elements relating to residents overall well-being and we hope you find it useful and please let us know how you get on – not forgetting to share with us some of your favourites too.

It was comforting for my family to know that he was being looked after by caring and dedicated staff throughout his short stay, who made his final days as comfortable and pain free as possible.
